<pre>Could you attach your config.log? Which version of whatever package provides
/usr/include/X11/extensions/Xrender.h (the file defining XLinearGradient) do
you have? Apparently configure things that you have an old version without
these definitions.
P.S.: How the heck did you get "./make" to work?!</pre>
