Probably a good idea in any case, since the PDF and PS backends 

 A) Won't be compiled on Win32 unless you have FreeType installed

 B) Won't produce text on Win32 unless you have the Win32 font
    backend disabled, since they can't handle Win32 backend fonts
    at the moment.
