[cairo] Quartz font issues blocking a stable release

Hi guys,
  I'm on the verge of wrapping up a 1.8.8 stable release, but today's
new bug report reminded me we have a few Quartz font issues that I'd
like resolved first.

I'd be grateful if our Quartz experts could take a look at these:

and see if they are easily fixable for 1.8.8.
