Looks like this requires a pretty new pkg-config, at least newer than FC4 has it:
$ rpm -qf /usr/share/aclocal/pkg.m4
pkgconfig-0.15.0-6

Looks like 0.16 is required. If that's the required version for building cairo,
can it be documented somewhere?
