I'm also having an issue with this. I just recently upgraded/updated my RedHat
4 Linux and started getting: 
cairo-ft-font.c:677: _cairo_ft_unscaled_font_set_scale: Assertion `error == 0'
failed.
When I launch my app. Is there a workaround this? I've never have apply a patch
to Linux before. I looked it up and they warn people about the kernel when
doing this. Can someone help???
