I found a workaround for the first problem - use http://cairographics.org/
instead of http://www.cairographics.org/. It works, but the problem remains -
the cairo nameserver and the cairo wiki are inconsistent and do not work
together properly.

While editing the pycairo wiki I came up against another problem. The file
permissions on 
  /srv/cairo.freedesktop.org/www/pycairo/index.html
somehow changed and now nobody apart from Carl can access the pycairo wiki.
