Still haven't tested a cairo recompilation, but I had a thought --

I wonder if this bug is why DejaVu Sans-10-slight has never matched between
GNOME and OpenOffice/KDE (which match each other, but not GTK).  It's always
taller in GTK but shorter and fatter in Qt/OOo at size 10.

Two different GUI toolkits render the font differently (but consistently) from
GTK.  Unlikely to be their problem.
