The issue is this section:

configure:33670: checking whether cairo's cairo-trace feature could be enabled
configure:33674: result: no (requires dynamic linker and zlib and real
pthreads)

With the patch this passes and I also get:

#define CAIRO_HAS_REAL_PTHREAD 1
#define CAIRO_HAS_TRACE 1
