Could you attach a pdf that doesn't work.

You can also use pdftocairo to simplify testing. It is a poppler utility that
outputs directly to cairo.

eg to print to ps:

pdftocairo -ps pdffile.pdf output.ps

to print to pdf:

pdftocairo -pdf pdffile.pdf output.pdf
