Antonio, sorry for the extreme delay in reply, but I'd certainly be interested
in seeing your patch.

Inkscape supports the various SVG units so may be worth referencing.  I don't
know if it applies here but Inkscape also needed to update the dpi assumptions
for the units, so that's something to be aware of.
