[cairo] Good news/bad news on OS X

Thanks for the report. I've just done the same with good success,

Absolutely. As always, untested code == broken code. I've now
committed fixes to the code to generate both PS and PNG output. And I
get good results from the basket demo on both little- and big-endian
machines.

Do let me know if it goes wrong again.
