This kinda stuff reminds me of PEX. :-(

What a pain, from the application writer's point of view, to have to 
spend so much time figuring out what functionality is supported and 
what isn't.

IMHO, if multi-platform is what everyone wants, it would be slightly 
better to have less functionality but be consistent with the API and 
capabilities, than to have the potential of some capabilities on some 
systems but not on others.

Just my opinion, of course :-)
