[cairo] Trouble with image_surfaces on Windows

On Windows building using Visual Studio .NET 2003, I've got a sample
program, http://www.pavlov.net/random/cairo-sample.c, which results in
all sorts of invalid pointer reads and array bounds read/writes.  I've
got output from Purify at
http://www.pavlov.net/random/cairo-purify.txt.  I've tried to track
down the problem but haven't made much progress.  The sample code
works fine with my GDI+ backend (more on that later).  I've tried
other drawing other things in to an image_surface and it explodes with
those too... Wondering if anyone had any ideas.
