David,

We need to get your patches to cairo itself committed to CVS.

I've been wanting to play with the OpenGL backend for sometime, but I
haven't had the chance to set myself up with a reasonable GL-enabled X
setup.

In the meantime, let's get things committed. That will make it easier
for users to play with the OpenGL backend, it will save you some pain
maintaining the patch externally, and it will help us all avoid
inadvertently breaking the OpenGL backend support.

I think the best plan for doing might involve separating the current
patch into two or more pieces. I feel fine with you immediately
committing the pieces that enable the OpenGL backend to be used, (but
otherwise don't add new features).

Parts that add new functionality, (like the new "shaders"), should be
sent to the mailing list for review before being committed. Also, feel
free to ask for review on anything you don't feel comfortable
committing without review.

All of these web pages could be hosted "officially" at
cairographics.org if you would like. Please let me know if you want
any help with the cairographics.org wiki, (eg. we might want a new
"Backends" category in the navigation bar or something, and changing
that requires a little bit of magic).

Thanks again for all your great work,

-Carl
