Both of those tests draw text so with your no-text cairo you should
expect them to fail.

The other tests are all rendering to memory buffers successfully,
which is a good sign. There's something breaking in the difference
between those programs and yours then.

If you can get your non-functional program down to a minimal, failing
test, I'd be glad to take a look at it.
