 From earlier reading on the web, it apparently does use a simple
FSAA approach indeed, which is bad for the rendering fidelity.

I do not see why one would want to fall back to FSAA when all the
information to properly do pixel based coverage (like pixman does),
is available. There must be a way to do this properly, which is
high-performant as well with current hardware?

Note that pixman seems to use a box filter still, so for certain
display types it could even be enhanced using a tent or gaussian
filter instead.
