I find this line very confusing:

and suggest to change it to:

I think something like 3-month cycles works good enough.  That
reduces the number of stable bug-fix releases, while still wide
enough to allow major changes.  For best results, something like
the new linux policy can be set, say, major changes are only
commited in the first three weeks after a major release...

show the BRANCH_1_0 branch ;).
