For this font stuff, I'm basically a font idiot. It's easy enough for
me to apply patches, but I'm a lot happier applying patches to code I
don't understand if I know better what they do.

From the original email on this one, all it says is that the function
was "reworked". Is this a bug fix? A behavioral change? Either way,
can you provide a test case that demonstrates the result of the
change?

Similarly, this is going to need a fix. I saw in IRC that you have a
patch that addresses this:

From a quick glance, it looks like there's a lot going on there. Can
you break that up into independent pieces and again provide some
justification for each?

I'm sorry the correctness of this stuff isn't all just obvious to
me. That's all my fault for not being a font wizard.
