[cairo] Confusion over git-fetch refs

Definitely.

We've got a cairo/util directory that would be suited for this, (we
haven't used it since the big API shakeup, and only once before that
for the xr2cairo renaming).

People working on this script should also keep track of a recent
thread on the git mailing list which talks about making use of a new
.git/refs/remotes directory rather than .git/refs/heads. This seems
like a much more elegant solution than the current -origin suffix I
put in the script.
