I'd definitely like to see PDF text selection fixed for 1.4.

There is also another PDF bug reported here

  http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/cairo/2006-December/008984.html

I can confirm the bug occurs when using Adobe Reader 7.0.8 for Linux to
print any cairo pdf containing truetype fonts. It is possible that the
cmap changes in the text selection solution proposed by Alp will fix
this bug.
