[cairo] Hopefully a simple question

Please forgive my ignorance.  I was wondering if it was possible to use
cairo to display a PDF file on the screen.  I understand that Cairo can
output to PDF, so I guess my question is can it use a PDF as input.  It
appears from what I have read that it can display a PNG file.

I am not really interested in how it would work at this point, just if it is
possible without a tremendous effort.
