[cairo] Installation of rcairo-1.10.0

Hello,

in the context of installing GTK+ I try to install the latest version of 
cairo.

Running

          ruby  extconf.rb

I get a message saying that 'mkmf' is required but missing.
Where do get/find 'mkmf'?

There are two more items required: 'rbconfig' and 'fileutils'. Could I 
get similiar messages for those?

I am using Debian lenny.
