</SUBSECTION> is not a valid tag. Apparently you are meant to use

<SUBSECTION tag>
function1
function2

<SUBSECTION tag>
function3

and so forth. Applying this patch still leaves cairo-version.xml
broken and introduces a warning about the invalid tag.
