I'm going to guess you're running from either Gentoo or other source install.
Forgot to mention my USE flags/configure options:
x11-libs/cairo (X glib svg -aqua -debug -directfb -doc -drm -gallium -opengl
-openvg -qt4 -static-libs -xcb)
www-client/seamonkey (alsa dbus ipc linguas_en linguas_en_US methodjit webm
-chatzilla -crypt -custom-cflags -custom-optimization -debug -libnotify
-linguas_be -linguas_ca -linguas_cs -linguas_de -linguas_en_GB -linguas_es
-linguas_es_AR -linguas_es_ES -linguas_fi -linguas_fr -linguas_gl -linguas_hu
-linguas_it -linguas_ja -linguas_lt -linguas_nb -linguas_nb_NO -linguas_nl
-linguas_pl -linguas_pt -linguas_pt_PT -linguas_ru -linguas_sk -linguas_sv
-linguas_sv_SE -linguas_tr -linguas_zh -linguas_zh_CN -roaming
-startup-notification -system-sqlite -wifi)
app-office/abiword (cups grammar latex ots plugins readline spell thesaurus -collab -debug -gnome
-math -openxml -wmf -wordperfect)
(For other peoples ref, see initial post for package version info.)
Aside from Seamonkey, I've had everything else compiled with no optimizations
and -ggdb, for debugging. Including debug configure/USE flags for awhile
today.

I forgot to mention, this only occurs when printing and not exporting to
PS/PDF. (I started using this as a backup plan for printing.) This also
further tells me it's likely not CUPS/LPR related and probably a few other
packages can be omitted from speculation.
I would be happy to scan in my printed output or send it via SnailMail. ;-)

I will check on this tomorrow when I get time and report back.
