[cairo] cairo_stroke

I need to know the flow off code when cairo implements any drawing
function. For exmaple in cairo_stroke The last line of code before return is
status = cr->backend->stroke(cr).
Here does the backend refer to backend surfaces such as a Xlib surface or
win32 surface? or does it refer to something else?
