[cairo] Some fonts are not rendered

I tried generating charts from these with
<https://github.com/ldo/python_freetype_examples/blob/master/font_chart>.
The result is multiple instances of

    bad glyph code nnn: FreeType error 139 -- execution context too long

and the resulting PNG file shows no glyph images.
