I have the same problem displaying to another linux.
uname -a Linux xxxx 2.6.18-8.el5PAE #1 SMP Fri Jan 26 14:28:43 EST 2007 i686
i686 i386 GNU/Linux
xclock -d -bg black -fg green
works - no warning
