be in the main cairo header file and not require fontconfig headers. Then 
there were to be machine-specific font interfaces that should be in their own 
header files.

I would certainly not want it to require machine-specific header files just 
to draw text, though I can understand having a more powerful machine-specific 
interface available. Just don't make it required.
