[cairo] Discovering pattern types

The language bindings documentation

mentions a theoretical type hierarchy.

But how could I, for instance, discover what type an existing
cairo_pattern_t has (from a cairo_*_get_*() function), so I can create
an instance of the appropriate wrapper type?
