[cairo] Assembler problems on FreeBSD?

I'm trying to get Cairo 1.0.0 going on my FreeBSD 4.10 (stable) machine, but
I'm running into problems. The big one is this:

bash-2.05b$ gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../.. -I../.. -I. -mmmx -msse
-Winline --param inline-unit-growth=10000 --param large-function-growth=10000
-O6 -MT libpixman_mmx_la-fbmmx.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/libpixman_mmx_la-fbmmx.Tpo
-c fbmmx.c -o libpixman_mmx_la-fbmmx.o
/var/tmp//cc2rxalb.s: Assembler messages:
/var/tmp//cc2rxalb.s:8610: Error: symbol `skip' is already defined
/var/tmp//cc2rxalb.s:8704: Error: symbol `skip2' is already defined

...for which I don't even know where to start looking for a solution. Any help
would be appreciated (btw, this is gcc 3.4.3 and the latest binutils.)

BTW, some header files are including stdint.h, which doesn't exist in FreeBSD
machines (they may exist in versions less antiquated than mine, but I don't
know.) I have a stub in place that gets around this, but I thought I'd
