This one is really not a huge problem.  I was thinking about it, but I
figured 'PostScript' is definitely better than 'ps', in the configure
output.  On the other hand, having the showed name match the --enable-*
option has its own merits.

Exactly.  I'm going to rewrite to have something like:

CAIRO_SURFACE_BACKEND_ENABLE
CAIRO_FONT_BACKEND_ENABLE
CAIRO_FUNCTIONS_ENABLE (for PNG)
