First it was just a question,
Second, I don't think that using any gcc or visualc (like vc6, vs2003 which I all use for testing purpose)
are shiny brand new compilers.

Perhaps *you* are only using the most cool, shiny and free toolchains,
but I thought cairo was supposed to be portable to a wide range of
platforms, also such that might use some ancient or weird compilers
with conventions that differ from those of the One True Compiler?
