Actually, Adobe's marketing has been very effective in convincing a
lot of people to refer to the pdf versions as acrobat versions.

When someone writes about an 'Acrobat vN' file, they really mean pdf
version 1.(N-1).  Or sometimes version <= 1.(N-1).

(Whether that algorithm will continue to work since the publication
of ISO 32000 remains an interesting question.)

It would be most cool, though, to successfully wean the public off
that notation and towards taking about pdf versions directly.
