the "BIG 5" is not supported by DirectFB font interface.
may be this is the problem.
the following link is a chinese font from BitStream
http://aol-4.vo.llnwd.net/pub/communicator/extras/fonts/windows/Cyberbit.ZIP
could you try it ?
