Perhaps it is because all the patches I've seen would need some
tidying up before they'd be suitable - `patch' is very much the
right word for the code given within them. They work, but
you wouldn't want cairo to be comprised entirely of these patches.
I would expect that if one of the patches was polished up a bit, it might
have a better chance of being merged...
