Yes, and the duplicates alone are annoying enough that I'd definitely like to
see this bug (and other similar ones) go away for good. We've even added this
to the RAODMAP for somewhere along the 1.4.x or 1.6. See:

That's primarily because I've never even seen a patch that the author has
suggested was clean or complete.

And I believe the most recent discussion has happened on the cairo mailing
list,  not here in bugzilla, (and the whole split-conversation thing is
something that I dislike about bugzilla very much).
