i confess that i've been doing this on some apps (OSX) using 
cairo/libsvg-cairo and SDL .. parsing the DOM to svg_cairo render 
plan, changing properties of nodes, re-rendering those nodes as they 
change .. works great, and is one of the reasons i've been reluctant 
to abandon use of libsvg-cairo and use librsvg instead ..
