Looks like this is because the OS/2 surface backend isn't 
automatically configured when on OS/2, but it must be enabled 
explicitly.  Only those surfaces which have default "auto" are 
considered native backends, so a patch to configure.ac to detect 
whether the OS/2 backend can be built would fix this.
